Meanderings of an opera obsessed mind...

Came across a 'summary' of that dreaded POTO film on Tumblr and found the following exchange hilariously funny. Despite it being written as a summary of the film, it might as well apply to the stage musical.

FIRMIN: Whoa, check out the blonde with the headlights.

MADAME GIRY: Zat ees mah DOTTAIR.

FIRMIN: Oh. Well, what about the hot brunette?

MADAME GIRY: Zhe es LAIK mah dottair.

ANDRE: Hey, we’re all French, right?

FIRMIN: Last time I checked, yes.

ANDRE: Well, then why is she the only one with a French accent?

Lol, I love Firmin and Andre...oh, and Madame Giry too (the one in the original musical and not that horrible sequel in which she transforms into a creepy Mrs Danvers type).

Gah, why the hell do I have to get a cold now?! I'm sniffling all over the place and my nose is running like a bloody water tap. I'm taking these cold and flu hot remedies which my mum fortunately stuffed into my luggage before I left Hong Kong and they've helped somewhat since I kind of feel better than yesterday but I'm still sneezing and sniffling which is rather annoying and which is also the reason why I didn't go to the archives today. Don't think the people at the archives would appreciate me sneezing all over their precious documents *shudders*

Fingers crossed that I'll get this little cold under control. Bought some green tea (by Twinings too...I've never tried green tea from Twinings) which has helped me in the past with colds - I think I even cured myself once of a cold by just continually drinking green tea a few years ago - so hopefully it'll work this time as well!

Night's falling and the air is filled with anxious anticipation as to what tonight will bring in terms of the riots. It's eerily like a war zone or the feeling you get when you're just about to go over the top in the FIrst World War. Hopefully all this mindless violence will go away soon. The Londoners are having a pretty rough go of the it at the moment.

Ooh, just read that David Suchet's going to be in an upcoming new television adaptation of Dickens' Great Expectations, which is probably my favourite Dickens novel (and I loved the 1946 film version with John Mills and Alec Guinness). He'll be playing Mr Jaggers and the series is currently due to be broadcast in the UK this Christmas.

Now if only they can get a move on with the Poirot adaptations as well then I'll be quite happy!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is finally here! And I'll be watching it in a couple of hours. =) Review and spoilers possibly to follow in another post if I can find the time!

I have tickets for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2!!!

Bought them yesterday ($130 for each...more expensive than usual because it's in 3D. Pity there's no 2D version available here...) after I found out that you could buy them in advance.

Finally managed to get a copy of the Song Prize final broadcast on BBC Four on 18th June and TA still looks fantastic for a man of his age...*sigh* Can't believe he's going to be 67 this September!

Hope he'll look (and sound) as good as he does here when I finally get to see him on 6th August!

Well, there I've gone and done it at last...I've finally set up a LJ community for Hugh Fraser. My fangirling over this fellow really must cease although I think that might be a little difficult seeing that he is Hugh Fraser who you simply *cannot* prevent yourself from fangirling over, especially after watching him as Hastings in Poirot among other things.

But whatever, I'm happy so that should be fine by me. :)

I've tried for hours to sleep but to no avail and it's already six-something in the morning now and in about two hours I'll have to be on my way to work...*sigh* Damn insomnia.

My current stint of insomnia is perhaps solely due to the fact that I bought my first DSLR camera yesterday, a Nikon D3100! (I might have to blame/thank David Suchet for getting me interested in Nikon cameras as I've seen him use them almost all the time even in costume as Poirot! But that's beside the point...XDD) I've been meaning to buy one for quite a while now since though I liked my Canon digital camera and it's taken pictures of some very special moments and events, I've increasingly been dissatisfied with the picture quality and how noisy the lens are when I zoom in onto something. Also, a DSLR is definitely in order for taking photographs of London/the UK...my other camera just won't do. I'm still fiddling around with the controls/features but so far the photos I've taken so far are marvellous and a vast improvement over my compact digital camera (obviously) so I'm happy with it.

EDIT: And I've just watched the second trailer of HP7 Part 2...OMG. They have more scenes of Lily and Snape (okay, the latter only has one more here where he's saying the bit where they've been keeping Harry alive for years so that he can die at the proper moment, etc)! And apparently, Snape has two appearances on the soundtrack, the first being 'Snape's Demise' while the other is 'Severus and Lily'. Less than 30 days to go until the end!
